Reflection 1 - sci.physics.relativity
The advantage of the newsgroup sci.physics.relativity has the advantage of to be more open.
The disadvantage is that many postings are not resulting in any true discussion.
Many postings only contain one message.
Reflection 2 - Overview
- The tread: "the self destruction of a newsgroup" discusses
The problem is that most of the text is written without any experimental prove. The prove is embedded in mathematics.
- The tread: "An open letter to Mr. Ross A. Finlayson" discusses
Reflection 3 "Usenet - General Review"
The present state of Usenet is a mess. Most of the postings are carbage in the sense that they are completely unrelated to the subject of the thread. In many cases it is pure advertising.
IMO the only solution is to introduce a certain level of moderation. I think the fact that a certain level of external control is introduced will be helpfull.
To get an impression of the pitfalls in moderation read this: https://www.eyrie.org/~eagle/faqs/
